Acrylic paint: the supreme king of all mixed media art supplies!!

First things first…. What is acrylic paint?

Acrylic paint, Wikipedia tells us,¬†is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints are water-soluble, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted with water, or modified with acrylic gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media”. Yes, acrylic paint is magic!

Acrylic paint has come a long way!

Artists used to have to mix their own acrylic paint before the 19th century… Oh dear, aren’t you glad you don’t have to?
Combining colours in a pleasing manner can sometimes be challenging so imagine if you also had to create each colour, in hot weather? o thank you Sir!
We are truly grateful and blessed to have a massive range of pre-mixed options available at our finger tips… With the best ones being sold in your favourite mixed media art store, right? ūüėČ

Did you know that Liquitex started selling water-soluble artists’ acrylic paints commercially in the 1950s¬†and that Daler Rowney¬†was the first manufacturer to introduce artist‚Äôs acrylic paints in Europe in 1963?
Those names are still around today and very well know in the mixed media world! Pretty cool, huh? We definitely love the Liquitex Basics Acrylics and Daler Rowney FW liquid acrylic paints!
Thankfully they didn’t stop at acrylic paint and now also have their own¬†acrylic medium range¬†with¬†gel medium¬†and¬†gesso amongst many others…

Our favourite: mixed media acrylic paint

So many acrylic paints options are available these days as many well known mixed media artists started developing their own range of designer acrylic paints, specifically made for mixed media art.
Who hasn’t heard of Dina Wakley’s¬†heavy body acrylic paint¬†or Dyan Reaveley’s¬†Dylusions paint for example??
We have so many options to play with, from heavy body as mentioned, to liquid acrylics, in tubes, jars and bottles, in various finishes from satin, pearlescent or fluorescent…

How could you NOT feel completely excited and inspired by all these options??
