Dina Wakley Media Journal introduction

Let’s get Dina to tell us all about her media journal… 😉

Dina Wakley Media Journal tutorials

1. MixedMediaJenn creates a stunning journal page here! Here are her steps:

  • Paint large loose random circles with masking fluid then flick a little fluid to create splatters
  • Mix Dina Wakley acrylic paint with a lot of water to make them very fluid and add the paint below your top circles.
Move your journal upright to let the paint run all around. Let dry.
  • Rub off the masking fluid
  • Use Scribble sticks and a stamp to add texture then add stamp words with permanent ink (like Stazon)
  • Stencil words of your choice with a little paint then some birds
  • Stamp larger birds on a separate sheet of thin cardstock, cut them out and use your inkpad to add a little black on the edges of the cutout shapes.
  • Create sun rays with orange acrylic and Tim Holtz Rays stencil
  • Add scribbly outlines with a fineliner (or a marker) and make splatters with the magenta scribble stick and water
  • Use the edge of the circles and the inside to add a little journalling if you like
  • Glue your cutout birds over the sun rays area, a stamped girl over one of your other circles and extra elements if you wish (tissue paper, seam binding, ribbon etc)
  • Frame the page by rubbing your stamp pad on the edges

2. A watercolour page with Irit Landgraf

With a few black scribbles, Jane Davenport watercolours or Confections (get some watercolours here!) and a white gel pen (that you will find here), Irit create a vibrant abstract journal page!

3. Fun loose flowers with Inkyfairydesigns

In the following tutorial, Inkyfairydesigns first uses tissue paper and gel medium to cover her page. She then adds a diluted layer of gesso over the whole thing then wipes off a little bit of it here and there with a baby wipe. She then adds Dina Wakley Acrylic paint, and a little water until she has a watercolour feel. Once it’s all dry, she uses a few fun texture stamps with permanent ink (like Ranger or Stazon) to create interest. She then paints fun loose flowers with acrylics and uses her Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks to outline them. Lime green comes in handy to add stems, and scribble sticks help adding texture. Adding a little water over the sticks will make it darker. A few more painterly highlights, scribbling and beautiful quote completes this fun mixed media page!
